Community Giving Tree in Northwest Arkansas

Our community giving tree

Created by a local artist, the 6-foot-tall tree features a shimmering canopy of inscribed pet tags as its leaves — each one a symbol of generosity, compassion and kindness to the animals.

After making your gift, you’ll be prompted to add your name, your family’s name, your pet’s name or the name of your organization to your tag.

Every time the tree’s tags sway in the breeze, visitors will be reminded of your extraordinary dedication to the animals of this community and to homeless pets around the country.

The pet food and supply pantry at the pet resource center

We’re always accepting donations of dog and cat food for the community pantry.

To make a food donation, please order from our Amazon Wish List or Walmart Registry for Good and have your donation shipped directly to the pantry.

You can also drop off your donation directly at the center. We accept all brands of wet and dry pet food. Opened bags are accepted if they are sealed up thoroughly.

Please drop off pet food donations at The Best Friends Pet Resource Center, 1312 Melissa Drive in Bentonville.

Sponsor an event

Businesses can sponsor a Best Friends event, such as Strut Your Mutt, to help shelters and rescue groups in their area raise funds for the pets in their care.

Participate in national and local events

Become a foundation partner

If your family, corporate or community foundation is interested in funding Best Friends’ lifesaving programs in your community, we would love to partner with you. Match employee donations, fundraising goals or volunteer hours

Some of the most respected brands in the world motivate their employees to get involved in their communities by providing incentives. These companies realize that when people know they are helping to save the lives of animals in shelters, they feel happier and more compassionate.

The Walmart Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program

The Walmart Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program provides grants to eligible organizations when Walmart or Sam’s Club associates volunteer.

In fiscal year 2021, associates reported volunteering more than 278,000 hours through VAP, which translated to more than $2 million in grant contributions to organizations serving our communities across the U.S.

Guidelines

Associates who volunteer with an eligible organization for at least one hour may request a charitable contribution on behalf of the organization.

All active full-time and part-time associates based in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are eligible.

The volunteer must have been employed with the company when the hours were volunteered and at the time that the VAP application is submitted and processed.

Participation in VAP is strictly voluntary.

Eligibility

Current 501(c)(3) public charities listed in the IRS Business Master File that conduct charitable activities in the U.S. are eligible.

Organizations must agree to use grant funds solely for activities in the U.S.

We encourage associates to volunteer at their favorite organizations, regardless of their eligibility for VAP. If associates are unsure if the organization qualifies for VAP, we encourage them to ask the organization if it’s eligible under these guidelines.

Application Period and Deadlines

Associates may submit grant applications starting February 1 through January 31 at 11:59 p.m. (EST).

Hours submitted must be within the same fiscal year that the hours were completed.

Organizations must confirm volunteer hours within 90 days of submission.

Restrictions

Associates may only submit up to 100 individual VAP hours per fiscal year.

Volunteer activities should be sponsored and planned by the organization, meaning the organization must play an active role in planning and managing the volunteer activities.

All associate volunteer hours must be above and beyond normal daily work activities.

Virtual volunteerism is allowed, but the associate must participate in a specific activity that is tracked and validated by the organization.

Reach out to workplacegiving@bestfriends.org or hannahv@bestfriends.org with any Walmart Volunteerism Always Pays program questions.
