Time to register for the 2016 Best Friends National Conference

Imagine being in a room with 1,500 or more people who, like you, are passionate about saving them all. They’re from all walks of life. They come from all around the world and each of them, like you, is working on inspiring programs designed to end the killing of shelter pets.

Over the course of four days, you speak with dozens of them about what matters most to you. Some become lifelong friends. You hear from dozens of experts who are collectively responsible for saving millions of animals. There is great food, great conversation and incredibly fun parties to boot.

Are you sold on the idea yet?

Yes, it’s time once again for the Best Friends National Conference, which this year is being held in Salt Lake City, in our home state of Utah. Salt Lake City is a place that means a great deal to Best Friends and the no-kill movement. As the state’s largest metropolitan area, Salt Lake City is leading the charge to take the entire state to no-kill. And we’re oh-so-very close to being able to announce that news!

This year’s conference will once again break down the elements of no-kill success in our “Getting to No-Kill” track, which will feature eight communities that are already at no-kill or are closing in fast. These communities vary in size, demographics and region, as well as in their various paths to a 90 percent save rate. But they’re all incredibly informative and highly inspirational stories that will help you understand how you can break down the barriers in your community to save more lives.

The other tracks are each designed to help you be more effective, no matter what your role is in animal welfare — shelter or rescue volunteer, veterinary professional, marketer, fundraiser or a leader of an organization. You can see the tracks for this year’s conference here.

As in previous conferences, we have a slate of the best and brightest speakers in the movement addressing the issues of the day. And this year’s optional “side trips” are some of the best yet. While space is limited, if you register early enough you’ll have the opportunity to choose from the following:

  • Visit the Best Friends Kitten Nursery and Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Salt Lake City.
  • Visit the incredibly successful Salt Lake County Animal Services shelter and the Humane Society of Utah. You’ll see firsthand how these organizations made their commitment to no-kill and achieved it!
  • Visit Nuzzles and Co. Ranch and Adoption Center, located in Park City, Utah. Nuzzles and Co. operates a 16,000-square-foot, no-kill facility on 100 beautiful acres. You’ll also visit the successful Nuzzles Adoption Center located in the very busy Tanger Outlets Mall.

It’s definitely a challenge each year for the Best Friends team to take the conference up a notch from the year before. It just gets better and better, but this year’s event in our home state is sure to be the best one yet.

I’ll see you there, where together we will learn how we can truly Save them All.
